Cultural ActivitiesAshton College offers a variety of cultural activities to suit most students' tastes. Public Speaking (Gr 4 – 12):Here we teach skills that are invaluable to any future career. Since 1998 Ashton has participated in the Annual Guild of Public Speaking Competition. Our speakers have achieved great results. Drama:(Gr 00 – Gr 7):Drama in the primary school is catered for at a Speech and Drama club which operates as an extra-mural activity. The Junior College enters Eisteddfods under this category. We produce a concert every two years in which all our students participate. (Gr 8 – 12):Our drama club has been a smash hit with ticket sell-outs at our annual Drama Review. We think you’ll agree that we can expect many thespians to blossom and maybe one day we’ll see them on The Big Screen. Choir (Gr 8 – 12):A Choir keeps the school entertained at functions and leads fellow students in singing the Ashton anthem. Debutantes & Squires (Gr 6 ,7 & 11):Our debutantes and squires work all year round raising money for the end of year Debutantes' Function where our top Debutante or Squire is crowned. Chess Club:We have a chess club where the more logical students battle it out on the chess board, playing in competitions and leagues. Debating (Gr 8 – 12):Passion and dedication from staff and students have helped us beat many a well-known private school in this field. SRC (Gr 8 – 12):The Student Representative Council is the link between teachers and students. The class representatives are voted in annually by their peers. Prefect Body:The Gr 6 & 11 students apply and are interviewed for selection as a prefect at Ashton. Management, Staff and Students vote for the Prefect Body. Prefects assist in maintaining discipline and carrying out duties at functions. |
